Tunon : Learning Expedition in China

Over several days, students from École Internationale Tunon swapped their classrooms for… China. Their journey took them to Shanghai and then Taizhou for a Learning Expedition combining classes, professional visits, cultural discoveries, and meaningful human experiences.

As part of their training in tourism, hospitality, and air transport, this was far more than just a trip—it was a deep dive into a vast country where tradition and modernity constantly coexist.

Learning expedition: the benefits for our students

Bringing lessons to life

On site, students didn’t just observe—they practiced.

On the agenda:

  • discovering cabin service in an intercultural context
  • housekeeping workshops
  • posture and presentation classes
  • industry-focused courses in English, directly linked to their future roles in the aviation sector

Everything they usually learn in class took on a new dimension: new standards, a different service culture, and new customer expectations.

Encounters, culture, and unique experiences

This Learning Expedition went beyond the classroom. Students also:

  • connected with professionals and Chinese students
  • took part in culinary workshops (traditional cuisine, tea ceremony)
  • explored cultural activities such as lion and dragon dance, hanfu experience, traditional ceramics, and calligraphy

In terms of visits, they explored Nanjing Road, the Bund, Qibao, as well as more natural environments such as the Qinhu National Wetland Park and the “water forest”.

Each day alternated between professional discovery and cultural immersion, with a common goal: understanding a country from the inside, beyond postcard clichés.

At the heart of China’s aviation industry

One of the highlights of the trip was diving into the aviation sector in China. Students had the opportunity to:

  • visit airports
  • discover COMAC and several airlines
  • attend drone demonstrations

For students aiming for careers in tourism, hospitality, or aviation, seeing how everything works in another part of the world is a real advantage: they compare, question, observe… and return with a much broader perspective on their future profession.

What students truly take away

Beyond photos and memories, this Learning Expedition helped them develop key skills that will make a difference on their CV:

  • strong adaptability in a completely new environment,
  • valuable intercultural skills for working with international clients,
  • enhanced professionalism: posture, communication, service management,
  • greater confidence in professional English.

During the closing ceremony, students received a certificate of completion. It’s not just another line on their CV, but concrete proof of what they experienced and learned in the field.

Why this also matters for international students
